First Post

First, introductory, post to this new site.

Well, this is my first post to this new site. I'm not sure yet how I will use the site -- I don't think I want a blog, as such, but I need somewhere to host certain basic information about myself, and also to document certain things I've been working on.

I intend to make posts about code I've written that I would like to make available for general use, and probably other topics related to using IT for Buddhist Studies (resources, research etc.). Sometimes I discover / develop / learn of things which could be useful to others, and it would be nice to have a way to share those things in a vaguely systematic way.

I will perhaps also write about more general topics in technology, especially the free open-source technologies I use -- Debian, Python, PostgreSQL and so on. I may also write from time to time about my own research, and about non-technology-related topics in Buddhism and Buddhist Studies. But to be honest, I doubt I will be bothered. I certainly won't be writing opinion pieces. I might, perhaps, occasionally write about cricket, although I'm not sure the internet is ready for that, yet...

Like many programmers, I'll probably spend more time working on the software that runs this site than on the content. This site was built last night in Django, it's running on my Debian server, and is served by a combination of NGINX and uWSGI. Perhaps I'll write something about the server architecture at some point, maybe for the threadbare "About" page.

About

Welcome to the website for Simon Wiles. I am currently a Ph.D. student at the Ho Center for Buddhist Studies in the Department of Religious Studies at Stanford University. This site is new, and I'm only slowly adding resources, but I hope it will be somewhere for me to collect information about various projects I've been involved with.
